Somatic Approaches

Somatics is an umbrella term that refers to a vast array of modalities that work with the psyche and the body. Somatic methods help us to drop in to more of our lived experience. Through paying attention to what is true in our experiences, we become aware of patterns that may no longer serve us as well as connect more deeply into what we love. Somatic based modalities are powerful because they facilitate access to deeper parts of ourselves that often do not get a voice in the midst of our busy lives. Many people’s days are filled with tasks and to do lists that call for types of thought processes that sometimes make embodied ways of being more difficult to attain and maintain.

Body-based modalities help people learn more ways of soothing themselves in times of distress. Somatic methods also facilitate a deepening into experiences that unlock unconscious processes. Sometimes people are surprised by what they find when they access images held in the body. Previously veiled landscapes within the body bridge concrete sensory experiences with imaginal and emotional realms.
